It's a beefy one this week. Not only is Meta dipping its toes hardcore in AI, but X is working hardcore on becoming the Everything App it keeps talking about evolving into. And there is so much more to sift through. So much more. It's time to block out the next hour of work and start digging into the top social media news stories from the week. 👇 |
Not one to be outdone, Meta has officially entered the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) game alongside OpenAI and Google. Last week, The Verge interviewed Zuckerberg on his plans to have Meta build AGI and make it open source so “everyone can benefit.” However … what does AGI mean for the companies? No one really has a clear definition or even how they will achieve it. Will it be human intelligence? Better than human intelligence? No one can really say … including Meta.
Even though they are working towards AGI, Zuckerberg says the company is still not giving up on the Metaverse. He also thinks that all virtual worlds in the future will be fully generated by AI and “filled with AI characters that accompany real people.”
Zuck let The Verge know that there will be a new platform released by Meta where people can create their own AI characters and use them across all platforms. It seems the line between human and AI is slowly getting blurrier and blurrier. |

After explaining that he couldn’t upload to X over YouTube because the cost of his videos are $$$, Mr. Beast has decided to experiment on X to see how much revenue he can generate through ads. Last week, Mr. Beast tweeted a breakdown of how much it costs for him to create a YouTube video and why he doesn’t think he’d make that back if he posted exclusively on X.
Now, a week later, Mr. Beast has decided to run a little test. He uploaded a video he posted on YouTube back in September to see how much ad revenue he would make on the new platform.
He promises to be transparent about how much he makes through ad revenue on X and, of course, all the big wigs at X were excitedly posting about how he’s finally using X. X is pushing hard to become a video-first platform and having one of the biggest video creators on the internet use its platform could be just the move for X. |
The transition of LinkedIn from a professional networking and job-searching website to full-blown social media platform has been a fascinating one to watch.
And now, LinkedIn is rolling out new ad templates where you can sponsor one of your posts on your page. Plus, you can now add a clickable CTA button, like “Unlock Article,” that will make people sign up before they can read the full article. While I think this is a great and easy way to get new leads through your door (and connected leads!), it does mean that we all must get ready for the increase in ads coming to a feed near you. |
