TikTok launched the program last year to give creators money for the best-performing content on the app.

While TikTok did have a Creator Fund program originally, it launched the Creativity Program after being called out and criticized for the many limitations the Creator Fund offered (yikes!).
The program encourages creators to make longer-form content and collect rewards. If you want to earn money through the program, you must create videos that are longer than a minute—so a hook and engaging content is key to making it big in the Creativity Program.

How does the TikTok Creativity Program work?

Unsure exactly how the program works? We’ve got you. Here’s all the key information you need on how to get started and understand the payouts if you qualify.

Eligibility requirements:

If you want to be part of the TikTok Creativity Program, you must:
  • Have a US-based account (sorry, everyone else!)
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have at least 10,000 followers
  • Have at least 100,000 video views in the last 30 days

How do you join the TikTok Creativity Program?

If you had previously been part of TikTok’s Creator Fund, there is a super easy way to switch to the Creativity Program:
  1. Clicking “Profile” in the TikTok app
  2. Selecting the Menu button (☰) and “Settings”
  3. Click “Creator tools” and then “Creator Fund”
  4. From there, you can select “Switch” at the bottom of the page.
Before you do this, know that you can’t switch back to the Creator Fund (in case that was something you wanted to do!).
However, if you’re fresh-faced to the whole making money on TikTok thing, here’s how to get into the program:
  1. Make sure that you are eligible for the TikTok Creativity Program and meet all the requirements above.
  2. Head to your profile in the TikTok app
  3. Tap the Menu button (☰) and go to “Settings”
  4. Tap “Creator tools” and then “Creativity Program”
From there, TikTok will decide if you can join the program or not (typically in 3 days).

How do creators get paid through TikTok Creativity Program?

The big question everyone has! How in the world do you get paid?
Well, TikTok says that creators will get paid biiiiig money (up to 20 times more than the Creator Fund!) if their videos do well. But how do the payments work?
TikTok’s Creativity Program uses metrics (like views!) for payout and compensation. With the program, there are two different ways how payments work:
  • Increased payouts: This is where you can earn big money. The potential earnings can range anywhere between $4-8 per 1000 views.
  • Variable earnings: Other creators have mentioned that they have gotten payouts from $100-600 per million views—some have even reported getting $1000 per million views. So, you can make some serious money depending on your content, your audience, and more.

What’s the difference between TikTok Creativity Program and Creator Fund?

The main difference between the two programs is that the Creativity Program offers higher cash incentives based on views which, according to TikTok, gives creators “the potential to earn 20 times the amount previously offered by the Creator Fund.”
The other key difference is video length requirements. With the Creativity Program, your video must be at least one minute long. In the Creator Fund, there wasn’t a limit which meant creators could monetize shorter clips.

How do I know if my video is eligible for the TikTok Creativity Program?

For your video to be eligible for the program, it has to check quite a few boxes:
  • Must be one minute long
  • Must reach at least 1000 views
  • Cannot be a Stitch or Duet video
  • Cannot be in Photo Mode
  • Doesn’t violate the Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, or Copyright Policy
  • Is not an advertisement, paid promotion, or sponsored content
Tip: If TikTok claims your video is ineligible but meets all the above requirements, you can submit an appeal within 30 days.
