What happens to TikTok now? 😭

Well, it finally happened—Americans might soon have to say goodbye to TikTok and we're giving you all the details on what that will actually look like. 

Plus, Meta is having a pretty good week in terms of Threads and AI, BeReal is trying to make a comeback, and Instagram is doing what Instagram does best: Release features no one wants. 

Let's dig in!  

It’s official: President Biden has signed the TikTok ban bill and TikTok has until January 2025 to sell the app to new owners in the USA.

Immediately after the singing of the bill, TikTok and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced both will be fighting back against the ban.

But what does the ban actually mean for users in the USA? Will the app be deleted from phones? Will they get fined for using the app after the ban?

No, TikTok won’t automatically be removed from phones overnight. The app will be removed from App Stores, which means that updates won’t happen. And we all know, not updating the app could make the app useless after awhile.

*cries*

At the moment, we’re unsure if using a VPN will work—obviously, the app isn’t currently banned yet. But that could be one workaround users use to remain on the clock app.

As far as using the app after the ban, it doesn’t seem likely the US government will fine users. However, Apple and Google will get fined if the app remains in App Stores to download.

The chance of the ban happening in January seems to be slim, IMHO, as the lawsuit from ByteDance and ACLU will drag out the ban longer. Will it ever get officially banned?

Only time and the US government will tell… 🙃
