  1. What is a brand? 🤔

What is a brand? 🤔

Let’s cover the basics first, shall we? A brand is something that completely identifies your company, product, or service from another one. It’s how people see and view your brand.
A brand also represents the values of the company. If you’re a brand online, your customer should know what you believe in, and they should know what to expect from you based on how you communicate.
While it might seem like a brand is “just” a logo or a brand style, it’s much more than that and encompasses the whole experience someone will have from you—from your social to your website to your customer service to your messaging and beyond.

Why is branding important? 🎉

There are so many reasons why branding is important but the biggest reason is that it makes you unique and your brand sticks out amongst the crowd. If your brand is the same as everyone else’s, why would someone want to buy from you?
Branding is important because it:
  • Differentiates you from your competition
  • Can help consumers recognize and remember to help find you again in the future
  • Helps establish trust and legitimacy over other brands
  • Can create an emotional connection with your audience that will make them come back for more

How do you build a brand using social media? 🔨

There are a few things that help you build a brand and here are some of our top tips to help you get started:

Know your audience

Honestly, if you don’t know who your audience is, how in the world are you going to market to them? Answer: You won’t! When it comes to building your brand, think of your customers as individuals. What do they like? What do they dislike? How old are they? What do they do? You need to dig into these questions to really fine-tune who you’re talking to.
If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to figuring out who in the heck your audience is, we’ve got you:
  1. Analyze your social media: Take a peek at your social media analytics. Who follows you currently? What are they interested in? How do they engage with your brand’s content now? This will help you tailor your content to engage your customers better.
  2. Ask your audience: One of the best things you can do is … ask your audience about themselves. Weird, I know, but true! Ask them how old they are, where they’re from, and what their interests are so you can get a better idea of what type of content you should make for them!
  3. Monitor social media conversations: Want to know what your audience actually thinks about you? Start peeking around on the internet and we’re sure you will find it. Search through your followers, see who they follow, and start gathering data on things they talk about and how they interact online and specifically with brands like yours. You can start adjusting your social strategy to be more in line with what your audience would want from you.
  4. Engage with your followers: If you want people to follow you, engage with them! Give them a reason to follow you. Start conversations in your comment section, answer questions in your DMs, etc. This will help you build a relationship with your audience and gain a better understanding of what the heck they want from you!

Pick the right platform

Psst: Did you know that you don’t have to be on every single social media platform to have a strong brand? It’s true. You need to figure out where your audience is and how you can resonate with them online. And if that means spending more time and energy on Pinterest over Twitter? Do it.
Take the time to really go through your demographics and find out where your audience is most likely to be.

Make sure your consistent

Social media rewards consistency and followers also reward it by giving you a cheeky little follow! It’s definitely hard to remain consistent on social media, especially if you’re doing social across many different platforms but consistency is absolutely key when it comes to growing your brand online.
One of our favorite tips to remain consistent is by using a social media scheduler, like Flick’s! It can help you stay ahead and manage your workflow better—all while making sure you post during the best time for your content.

Build your brand voice

This is one of our top tips and if you’re going to follow one, it should definitely be this one! You need to figure out your brand’s voice online. Click here to deep dive into how to come up with a brand voice.
But why is this so important? Because when you establish a brand voice, it helps you hone in on your brand’s personality, how you cater to your audience and more. Establishing a great brand voice can help set you apart from your competition and make people want to return for more.

Connect with content creators in your industry

If you want new followers through your door, networking and working with influencers and content creators who have a similar audience to yours is a great way to reach new people!
Whether you’re launching a new product, want people to know more about you and your brand, want to generate leads and more, working with influencers is a huge way for you to get new people through your door.
Go through your social media pages and see which content creators follow you or that seem to have a similar niche to what you’re promoting and reach out to them. Once you start building a relationship, see if there is a way you can collaborate together on a project in the future.
When building your brand on social media and getting new people to follow you, sometimes you need to look out for the trends currently dominating social media. Now, this isn’t to say you should jump on every trend because you shouldn’t, but start incorporating trending ideas into your social media strategy that fit your brand.
Things like sharing short video content (i.e. Reels, Shorts, and TikToks) or adding your own twist to a meme are both great ways to try out trends in your own way.

Engage with your audience

One of the biggest reasons people are so loyal to certain brands is not only because of the consistency in the product and service they receive but because they feel like the brand actually cares. And one of the ways to make your audience feel like you care is by engaging with your audience.
Build trust. Develop relationships. Start talking to your customers and get to know them! The more you engage with your audience, the higher the engagement will be on your own content—from comments to DMs to website clicks and more.

Measure the results

Once you start putting together your social strategy and implementing the steps above, start measuring the results. Go through your analytics and pinpoint what is working for your content and what … isn’t working. Is there a specific thing you’ve talked about that people really resonated with? Is there a certain video you did that people shared the most?
Keep track of which posts are performing better so you can think about ways you can repurpose that content in the future.
