![]() Well ... how are we all feeling out there?Ā ![]() Elon Musk is our new Twitter ruler, Netflix is losing millions of subscribers (honestly, though? Serves them right ... ask me about my beef with them later), hashtags are making a swinging comeback despite the haters giving them up, Dogecoin is coming back with a vengeance, and Reddit is just being Reddit.Ā Ā A lot has happened this week and, again, I ask the world of social media to chill. Just one day. Please. Give us social media managers one day.Ā Ā Alright, strap in, folks. Let's get into this bumpy ride...Ā
Tbh, I really didnāt see this one coming. After Elon Musk put in his offer to buy Twitter, I thought the board members would go, āLOL BYEā instead of āYes, we now welcome our new Musk overlord.ā But ⦠here we are. 𤪠 And ⦠it seems like a lot of people arenāt very happy about King Elon the Eighth taking over the bird app. At an All-Hands yesterday, staff were told there would be no layoffs āat this timeā which has a lot of people speculating that means big time cuts are coming soon. ![]() While other people are tweeting to either leave Twitter forever and destroy the app in a similar way people ādestroyedā Tumblr when Yahoo bought the website back in 2013.Ā Ā Yikes.Ā Ā Until we find out how this all moves forward (Iām going to willing to bet this is going to be a loooooong process and I cannot wait to read Jack Dorseyās shade towards the new owner), itās going to be fun to read all the speculation on whatās going to happen to good olā Twitter. With the number of companies Musk has bought, started, stepped down from, and killed, it will be a wild ride to see what happens to the app. Ā Will it survive? Or die in a hell fire? Time will only tell.Ā
Earlier last week, Adam Mosseri (mine and millions of othersā nemesis) announced that Instagram is changing the way it ranks content. Making sure to put more of an emphasis and focus on original work. So those re-shares and UGC that social media managers all over the world share on their own platforms? Yeah, that could be pushed down in the ranking system as itās not their original work.Ā Ā āIf you create something from scratch, you should get more credit than if you are reshaping something that you found from someone else. Weāre going to do more to try and value original content more, particularly compared to reposted content.ā Ā There are SO many meme accounts all over Instagram that share other peopleās content, and while they *sometimes* give credit to the original creator, a lot of the time they pass it off as their own and get more likes than the original. So this change could be a massive win for those who create original, engaging content. Ā However, what could this mean for businesses and brands that share UGC? You might see a slight dip in reach and engagement. š¬ Ā While this is all still incredibly new and still being experimented on, it will be interesting to see how it all shakes up on the olā āphoto-sharing but not photo-sharingā app.Ā
Well, the time might have finally arrived where TikTok steals an original idea from Instagram.Ā Ā Wait, wut.Ā Ā It looks like Instagram is testing a new āTemplatesā option with Reels creators that allows users to copy the exact format of the Reels clip they watched and make their own content based off the template. Ā According to a tweet shared by Alessandro Paluzzi, Templates will let users use ANY Reels clip as a template where you can insert your own clips into the framesābasically letting you copy and paste the original Reel.Ā Ā Not only will this help the timing of your own content (hello, can anyone figure out the exact drop of a sound without help because I sure canāt!), but it can help you get out of a creativity rut ⦠by encouraging pure plagiarism. Hehe. Ā No, no, Iām only joking. Unless youāre out here copying every single frame exactly like the original creator (this is a huge no-no in my book š), I think this could be such a cool concept for a lot of people to really start getting into Reels who donāt know where to begin.
