Â
Anyone else taking bets on what's going to happen over at Twitter in 2023? Because most of the things that have happened this year so far definitely weren't on my 2022 Bingo card.  With TikTok under fire (and possibly about to leave the US market if it's not careful) and Elon Musk in the news every other day, social media is never not boring ... or full-on.  Grab your drink. Grab a snack. And let's jump in. |
Tweet-Tweet. Twitter updates are here! |
Another weekâs gone by which means more news from the bird app. Tweet-tweet. Itâs time to dive in. Â
1. One of the biggest announcements from the app this week is the character limit increase. Remember back in the day when Twitter only allowed you 140 characters? Well, say goodbye to those Notes apologies posted to Twitter because now people can apologize up to 4,000 characters. Â Itâs a massive increase for the app, and I donât think Iâm the only one who will be sad to say âgood-byeâ to the good olâ Twitter threads. Â
2. Youâll also soon be able to see how many people your tweet has reached. According to Musk, a lot of tweets are reaching way more people than users realize and hopes that if Twitter highlights the exposure, it will get people to tweet more often (and hopefully get more ad revenue through the doors).
Â
3. Fear youâve been shadowbanned on the platform? Fear no more. Musk has announced that Twitter is currently working on an update that will let you know what your accountâs status actually is, the reason behind if youâve been shadowbanned, and exactly how you can plead your case. Now, if only Instagram allowed this ... oh wait, they already are (see below!).Â
Â
4. The relaunch of Twitter Blue subscription is back, baby! And with a price increase if youâre an Apple user. đŹ So if youâre looking for that blue checkmark, youâre going to have to fork over your $11/month.  5. With over 1.5 billion accounts that are inactive on the platform, Musk is freeing up the names so if youâve been patiently waiting for your name to become available after an inactive user took it years ago, now could be your chance.

Itâs officially here for all TikTok usersâlocation tagging for videos. Â
While this might not sound like a really freaking big deal, it really, really is. Now when you search for content, you can search by location. This is a game-changer for businesses and brands as users can search for a specific location and can find a brand or biz through that location. Â
It looks like TikTok is really coming for Google harder than ever. Question is: Who will end up on top? |

Instagram is finally getting transparent đ„Č |
After years and years of people speculating if they have been shadowbanned and whether or not your content is showing up to non-followers, Instagram is FINALLY (FINALLY!!) letting users check their account status. Â Now, when you go to your Account Status, you will see an alert if your content isnât eligible to be shown to non-followers. And the best part? If you donât agree with the decision, you can appeal. đ Â This is such a huge and important step for Instagram as itâs something people have been wanting for years. Â More transparency, pleaseandthankyou! |
