Well, it's been quite a big week for both TikTok and Twitterāboth the social media platforms seem to be going head-to-head on which one is being talked about more. From Twitter changing their logo to Doge (yes, this is a real thing) to TikTok maybe, possibly, seriously being banned from the States, social media is on one this week.Ā

TikTok ban backfiring for the US |
If the US thought that banning TikTok was going to happen to rounds of applause ⦠theyāre getting a serious reality check. Not only did TikTok founder Shou Zi Chew hit 3 million followers on the app, ByteDanceās Instagram rival app, Lemon8, has officially hit the Top 10 in the App Store. Ā After months of spending millions of dollars on lobbying against the ban, ByteDance is working hard on pushing its other apps CapCut and Lemon8 in the US. And if that happensāwill the US be banning all apps from the China-owned company? Ā
There have been many influencers and even government officials (hey, AOC!) making videos speaking out against the ban, and like we mentioned last week, Chew has been labeled the Daddy of TikTok and now has a large amount of stans. Ā The US says it is going to move forward with the ban, but the backlash, I think, will be huge. š³ |

To verify or not to verify? That is the question. |
After announcing that the good olā blue checkmarks will go away if youāre not paying to be verified on Twitter, it seems that the checkmarks ⦠havenāt gone away. Ā
While some have, it seem like most are still there and that the team behind the removals will have to do it manually. Sounds annoying, if you ask me. But a business that got its checkmark removed ASAP? New York Times had to say āso long, my loverā to its blue (or gold ⦠what color are business accounts checkmarks now?) checkmark this week after it refused to pay out (you can read all about that controversy here ⦠itās pretty juicy!).

After weeks and weeks of saying the new API was coming, Twitterās new API was officially announced and the three different tiers have wildly different pricing structures and rules. Ā Originally, Twitter announced that it was removing free access to the API in February, however after being met with a lot of backlash, it decided to provide a free tier to bots that provide āgood content.ā Whatever good content means⦠Ā
If youāre a business (or bot) and want the access to Twitterās API, here are the different structures: - Free tier: Itās free (yay!) ⦠but you only get 1,500 post per month
- Basic tier: Itās $100/month (not terrible) and you get 50,000 post requests and 10,000 read requests per app per month.

Enterprise tier: Itās $42,000/month (loooooool) and no idea what the post and read requests will be.
It's a pretty big jump from $100 to $42,000āand I really don't see a lot of businesses adding this into their monthly budget. I mean, unless you're Elon Musk. |

The social media app is now adding recommended posts into your stream, along with Suggested Posts that are based on your interests.
