Instagram Edits is here ⦠and itās not great? š¬ |
After months and months of teasing it and then pushing back the launch date, Instagram Edits is here! Do we like it? Do we hate it? Iām really not sure yet. It seems ⦠fine? And yes, it is exactly like CapCut, so no surprises there (does this help or hurt Metaās FTC case saying they are a monopoly?). Ā
The new app from Meta is to help people make video content quick and easy by offering: - Multi-channel editing: You can see a timeline with multiple video streams to edit your clips

Project management: Manage multiple video projects at once under a āProjectsā tab
- Notes: You can write up notes and ideas you have
- Reels trends: Hop on a current trend or audio through the app

Longer video: You can film up to 10 mins of video and edit how you please

Video effects: There are multiple different effects inside the new app to make content more engaging and fun
And a few other video editing tricks up their sleeve. I personally think there is still a lot of work to go, and at the moment I still enjoy CapCut more.Ā
Although, if you want to get higher reach on Instagram, you might want to use Reels to edit your content as users are reporting a significant bump in reach when sharing via the new app. š |

Last week was the 20th anniversary of the first-ever YouTube video upload, and itās wild to think how much the platform has grown over the years.Ā Ā
According to recent stats, YouTube gets 50% more views than Netflix (!!) and as much as Disney, Prime, Peacock, and Paramount Plus combined.Ā Ā Yes, combined. And thatās only counting people who watch it on their TVs.Ā Ā
Over the years, YouTube has become a platform for creatives and content creators. Celebrities and normal people alike post videos on the platform (heck, I remember posting videos for school back in the day that Iām sure are somewhere still out there ⦠please donāt look for them). YouTube had the first influencers who created the original unboxing videos and GRWMs that we all know and love.Ā Ā
And as much talk as TikTokās algorithm gets every day, YouTube mastered its algorithm and quickly figured out what videos were going to make people stick around for hours and hours. Ā Today, the platform is watched by 3.5 billion people monthly, generating $36 billion in ad revenue (!!) and is more than just a cute place for people to post their vlogs.Ā Ā From long-form videos, Shorts, podcasts, live sports, AI tools, games, and one of the top places for people to get their news, YouTube is quickly becoming the media company it didnāt know it would (or could) be in 2005.Ā Ā And now itās onto becoming the one-stop platform for all digital content creation and consumption ⦠and I truly donāt see it stopping there. Instagram is verifying age with AI š¤ |
Yes, as more and more places are talking about social media platforms having age limits, Instagram has been making sure it has the features it needs. You know ⦠just in case.
Over the past few years, Instagram has been working on different ways to detect if someone is actually the age they say they are, and now itās rolling out AI age-checking.Ā
As Meta explains:Ā Ā
ā[W]e first train an AI model on signals such as profile information, like when a personās account was created, and interactions with other profiles and content. For example, people in the same age group tend to interact similarly with certain types of content. From those signals, the model learns to make calculations about whether someone is an adult or a teen.ā Ā What does that mean exactly? Well, Instagramās AI will check what someone is engaging with, talking about, and what accounts they follow to determine their age.Ā
Thatās not the only step Meta has taken to verify age. Itās also rolled out video verification (similar to a lot of online banks!), and giving guidance to parents on how they can best protect their children online.Ā
While Iām not sure if I exactly enjoy Instagramās AI being able to verify by digging through everything someone is engaging with online, it does feel like an effective way to quickly check if someone is over a certain age⦠|
