How to get a better workflow and process for writing Instagram captions

During this section, you'll learn all of our tips and tricks on how to create a better workflow and process for writing your captions.

We promise, if you follow this course and actually do each of the steps, you'll start creating better captions ... quicker.

Get into the habit of writing

The way you become a better writer? By writing more! Make a habit to write daily. Whether that is writing in a journal, Google Doc, or the Notes section of your phone, just write!

We know how hard it is to stare at a blank page, so try and figure out something you want to write about. Start with a topic you have in mind, or find some journal ideas to help you get started.

Write your captions in batches

One of the biggest reasons it’s so hard to come up with a great caption is that most people write them quickly and in the spur of the moment.

While that’s great when you’re trying to do quick content or just push something online … it’s not going to help your overall Instagram strategy and definitely doesn’t mean you’re going to come up with the world’s greatest caption while you’re at dinner with friends panicking because you forgot to post earlier that day.

If you can, writing 30 days' worth of captions is a way for you to get all of your posts planned for the upcoming month, plus make sure you’re getting your brand voice across and have all of your ideas out there and scheduled.

Seeing the posts laid out will showcase what content you need to spend more time exploring (Sales? A launch? Ads?) and where you can add your personality a bit more!

If you’re struggling with creating captions for the month, we’ve got a fun little surprise for you below.

30 days of captions

🎉 We’ve created a month of caption prompts to get you through. Each day, you’ll have a prompt that you can work from to help write the best caption for your content that will help you with engagement.

Tools you need to create engaging Instagram captions

There are quite a few different tools out there on the internet (free tools!) that will help you with creating your captions and making sure they’re the best before you click “publish.”

Our Instagram Scheduler! Getting your Instagram captions and posts scheduled out will help you with keeping your audience engaged. Our scheduler is free with your Flick account and is currently in beta mode. If you’d like to be part of it, you can sign up today.

One of the best tools to use when writing captions (and writing in general!) is Grammarly. It’s a free plugin that will help you make mistake-free captions by keeping an eye on your spelling, clarity, tone, and style of voice.

ClichéFinder is also another great tool to help you delete and stop using phrases that are a bit … overused online. And the best part? If you’re speaking to an audience that lives outside of America (hello, a lot of people!!), ClichéFinder will help you avoid expressions that are way too American.

If you’re looking for ways to become a better writer, we also recommend copyhackers.com to help you with upping your writing game. You’ll find articles, training, and videos to help you with your writing.

Why you need to use hashtags on Instagram

As we’re Flick, you can’t get away with not using hashtags for your content. Obviously.

Hashtags not only help you gain new followers on Instagram, but it also helps you reach more people, connect with new potential followers, and find content that is related to your niche.

We can go on and on about hashtags (and we have … be sure to check out our Hashtag Academy to learn how to find the best hashtags for your brand!), let’s establish why hashtags are needed and how they work when they are in a caption.

Use hashtags as keywords for your content

Using relevant, targeted hashtags on your posts is still the best way to get discovered by people on Instagram. However, they must be relevant to the content you’re sharing. A lot of the reason hashtags aren’t working for people is that the ones they are using aren’t super relevant to what they’re posting.

Think of it this way: You want your website to be discovered on the first page of Google, however, the only way to do that is by creating content that is optimized for your website. Instagram is the same way with its hashtags!

The more you post relevant content that is optimized around the hashtags you’re using, the better chance you have at improving your discoverability and landing on the Explore Page.

This is why it’s so important to have an efficient hashtag strategy. If you’re struggling with hashtags, don’t worry. We’ve got you. We will help you find the perfect hashtags for your account and even provide you with suggested hashtags that will work best for your account.
